New Plane
My friend, an ex-Marine Aviator wanted to show off his new twin-engine plane. I
was riding along as he put it through its paces. Suddenly, we were caught in a
violent thunderstorm, with lightning crashing all around us. Next, we lost the radio and most of the instruments. As we were being tossed around in the sky, George said, “Uh-oh!”
Fearing the worst, I asked, “What's wrong now?”
George replied, “I got the hiccups. Do something to scare me.”
A blind pilot?
I was flying from San Francisco to Los Angeles. By the time we took off, there had been a 45-minute delay and everybody on board was ticked. Unexpectedly, we stopped in Sacramento on the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be another 45-minute delay, and if we wanted to get off the aircraft, we would reboard in thirty minutes.
The Nervous Pilot
A photographer for a national magazine was assigned to take pictures of a
great forest fire. He was advised that a small plane would be waiting to
fly him over the fire.
The photographer arrived at the airstrip an hour before sundown. Sure enough,
a small Cessna airplane was waiting. He jumped in with his equipment and
shouted, "Let's go!" The tense man sitting in the pilot's seat swung the
plane into the wind and soon they were in the air, though flying erratically.
"Fly over the north side of the fire," said the photographer, and make several
